Mr. Fechter comes to our district with many years of site leadership experience. Tyson is an experienced educator and equity-driven school leader with 18 years in public education. Currently he is serving as principal at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Academic Middle School in San Francisco, where he has led a number of initiatives that have improved outcomes for students and expanded Project-Based Learning. A recipient of SFUSD’s Holway/Fong Middle School Principal of the Year award, his leadership is featured in the forthcoming book Street Data 2, by Shane Safir. Tyson is a UC Santa Cruz and UC Berkeley graduate and a champion of joyful, inclusive, and community-centered education. His strong leadership skills as well as his elementary and middle school administrative experience make him a perfect fit for Tice Creek Elementary School.
Mr. Fechter shared his excitement about joining the Tice Creek community, “I am thrilled to be joining the Tice Creek School community! There is a wealth of strengths and expertise that exist in this community, and I’m looking forward to working with our students, families, and staff to achieve the hopes and dreams of all in our school. I believe my role as the school leader is to support our school’s growth to achieve the greatest outcomes for all of our students, and do it in a way that feels joyful and collaborative. I will partner with students, families, and staff, and work tirelessly for our community. This is our school, and I am here to do the work together with you to ensure the learning, well-being and feeling of belonging for every student.”
