Tice Creek is unique in the Walnut Creek School District as it is the only K-8 school in the district and through our signature practice of Project Based Learning. By approaching instruction of Common Core State Standards through Project Based Learning (PBL), students are challenged to work on real-world problems with real-world outcomes. The process requires students utilize the four C’s of 21st-century learning: collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and communication. As students research a driving question, classes often enlist the support of an industry expert to guide students and offer feedback on attempted projects. Each PBL unit ends with a product or outcome which often is presented to an authentic audience. Throughout this process, students are encouraged to engage in the cycle of inquiry: asking questions, seeking answers and developing new questions along the way.

The Walnut Creek School District encourages every student to attend school every day.  School attendance has a direct impact on student achievement.  To avoid unnecessary absences, please follow these tips:

• Only miss school due to illness such as vomiting, diarrhea, or fever within the last 24 hours
• Schedule medical appointments and extended trips when school is not in session
• If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to the teacher, principal, or your doctor for advice

Our elementary school day typically begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 2:50 p.m., with late start Wednesdays. Our middle school day typically begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:10 p.m., with late start Wednesdays. For specific days and times, please see our Bell Schedule.

After-school programs are available for families needing extended care.  Contact your school for more information.

Tice Creek is a lottery-based admission.  With the exception of Kindergarten, students must be currently enrolled and attending a WCSD school to apply for the lottery. Inter-District transers are not accepted to Tice Creek.

Applications for Tice Creek will be accepted January through mid-February, with the lottery being held at the end of February.

CDE defines ELOP as a before-schol, after-school or non-school day learning program for grades TK-6^th which focuses on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of pupils through hands-on, engaging learning experiences.  Visit our Extendend Learning Opportunity Program page.

All students get one free breakfast and one free lunch. If a student wishes to purchase Ala Carte items, or a second meal, they must have money in their Titan account.  Please visit our Child Nutrition Services page to set up or add money to your Titan account, view lunch menus, and learn more.
